Ken Kaneki, portrayed by Masataka Kubota, is a university student leading an ordinary life before a fateful encounter changes everything. His life takes a dramatic turn when he is attacked by a ghoul named Rize, who preys on humans for food. The attack leaves Ken seriously injured, and it seems his fate is sealed in that terrifying moment.

Fortunately for Ken, an unexpected accident intervenes during the attack. A steel beam falls on Rize, subduing her and preventing her from killing him. This incident leads to both Ken and Rize being rushed to the hospital for treatment. The injuries sustained are critical, and Ken's life hangs in the balance as doctors work to save him.

During his recovery, Ken undergoes a life-changing medical procedure. Due to the severity of his injuries and the necessity to save his life, he receives an organ transplant from Rize. This transplant is not ordinary; it transforms his body and fundamentally alters his nature. As a result, Ken becomes a half-ghoul, a creature caught between human and ghoul worlds.

The transformation awakens new instincts and urges within Ken, leading him to confront the complexities of his dual existence. He begins to experience life as a ghoul, with all the challenges and dangers that come with it.
