Ken Kaneki, portrayed by Masataka Kubota, is a university student leading an ordinary life before a fateful encounter changes everything. His life takes a dramatic turn when he is attacked by a ghoul named Rize, who preys on humans for food. The attack leaves Ken seriously injured, and it seems his fate is sealed in that terrifying moment.

Fortunately for Ken, an unexpected accident intervenes during the attack. A steel beam falls on Rize, subduing her and preventing her from killing him.
